2024 End Of Year President’s Letter

Graphic with snowy trees, snow on the ground, and snowflakes. There is text that says "End of Year Letter from NKSF President" with a garland below the text. The North Kitsap Schools Foundation logo is near the bottom of the graphic.

2024 has certainly given its share of interesting challenges and changes for the North Kitsap School District. Some of what happened over the last year in our community brought about a great deal of legitimate frustration, anxiety, and stress. What I’ve noticed most of all, though, throughout all of the passionate exchanges, rapid changes, and hard sacrifices, is not despair over how things have gone, but hope. With no guarantees as to the outcomes we face, hope is our best ally and the unifying force that will keep our community strong in its efforts to shape better educational opportunities for our kids.

I am so honored to have served as president of the North Kitsap Schools Foundation this year, and I’m grateful that the board has agreed to keep me in this role for 2025. Every day I hope for the best possible future for the foundation, and all that it does for our local schools, because through building strong schools we build stronger communities.

We are grateful for your support, in whatever way you’ve been able to help throughout the year. Sharing our social media and blog posts, subscribing to our newsletters, and all of your generous donations provided North Kitsap schools with much needed classroom support.

If you would consider an end of year donation, your financial contribution goes a long way toward helping our teachers and the work they do. Just take a look at some examples from the grants NKSF awarded to teachers at the beginning of our 2024-2025 school year:

Donation Suggestions

  • $7 will afford a student with the opportunity to discover natural history with a visit from the Burke Museum at Vinland Elementary.

  • $30 is buying a book bag and a book to go in it for kids at Suquamish Elementary.

  • $50 will pay for a Vinland 4th grade kiddo to take a trip to Olympia and learn about our state capitol first-hand.

  • $125 is going to provide a Kingston High School student with a quality scientific calculator to explore advanced mathematics.

  • $450 will bring the Bremerton mobile planetarium and turn Pearson's school gymnasium into our solar system.

Of course, financial support isn’t the only way to help out. Come get involved with some fun, passionate community members who are working to improve education in North Kitsap. Fill out our volunteer form, and we’ll be in touch. If you have any questions, or feel like you might like to contribute in some other way, give us a shout. We’d love to hear from you.

We all appreciate the wonderful, hopeful energy you have given to our endeavor and we wish you all the best for the holiday season, and a new year filled with fresh opportunities and probably a few more interesting challenges and changes.

Sincerely,

Stefan A. Keel
