One Spark Changes Everything

"Spark" in blue script with a spark, on a white background. Logo below: "North Kitsap Schools Foundation."

Sometimes, the most significant impact in a school doesn’t come from a new building or a massive curriculum overhaul. Sometimes, it starts with something smaller. Quieter. But just as powerful.

It starts with a Spark.

Every month, across the North Kitsap School District, something remarkable happens behind the scenes. Teachers, paraeducators, counselors, custodians, office staff, and administrators make a simple choice: to give.

Through automatic payroll deduction, often just $5, $10, or $20. NKSD staff are quietly fueling the future. These small, consistent contributions go to the North Kitsap Schools Foundation, helping fund classroom grants and enrichment opportunities that go beyond what state dollars can cover.

They’re not giving because someone asked. They’re giving because they believe.

In each other. In their students. In what’s possible.

And now, that belief has a name.

Meet SPARK

SPARK is the name of our staff giving program.

It stands for:

Support. Partner. Advocate. Reach. Kindle.

It reflects what this program is all about: educators helping educators. Small acts of support that multiply into real change. A quiet but growing movement of generosity, innovation, and belief in what's possible when we work together.

SPARK isn’t just a program—it’s a promise.

A promise that our schools are filled with people who lift each other up.

A promise that when one educator succeeds, we all do.

Why SPARK Matters

What does one small gift really do?

It can fund a STEM kit. A classroom book set. A field trip to the Capitol. A salmon hatchery in the corner of a third-grade classroom. It can bring back music, bring in artists, and bring out joy.

Because of SPARK:

  • Third-grade classrooms at David Wolfle, Poulsbo, Suquamish, and Vinland Elementary became hatcheries for baby salmon, connecting students to the environment through hands-on science.

  • Over 100 musical instruments were repaired at Kingston Middle School, reviving a band program that had been silenced by wear and time.

  • High school students at NKHS created fine metal jewelry using professional-grade tools, gaining skills, pride, and new creative paths.

  • Students at Poulsbo Elementary found new focus and comfort through flexible seating funded by a SPARK grant.

  • Students at KHS and Choice Academy deepened their understanding of identity and culture through supported cultural awareness projects.

These aren’t just classroom upgrades. They’re moments of wonder, confidence, connection, and creativity. They are the sparks that light up a student’s day - and sometimes, their future.

The Power of Giving Together

What makes SPARK so special isn’t just the impact, it’s who it comes from.

These grants are powered by the people already doing the work.

It’s a paraeducator helping fund a field trip they won’t even attend.

It’s a secretary supporting a science lab across town.

It’s a teacher investing in someone else’s students because they know how far one grant can go.

This is the quiet strength of our schools: people who give not because they have to, but because they want to see each other succeed.

Be a SPARK

Being a SPARK means saying yes to possibility.

Yes to community.

Yes to one small action that creates a ripple of impact.

If you’re already giving through payroll deduction, thank you.

You’ve been the spark all along.

If you haven’t joined yet, this is your moment.

It’s easy to sign up. The impact is real. And you don’t have to give a lot to be a part of something powerful.

Because one spark doesn’t just make a difference -

one spark changes everything.
