Staff Appreciation Week: Honoring the Heart of Our Schools

A heartfelt thank you to the North Kitsap staff who show up every day for students, families, and our school community.

Staff Appreciation Week gives us a special opportunity to pause, reflect, and say something that can never be said enough: thank you.
Not because appreciation belongs to just one week. It doesn’t. The work happening in our schools deserves recognition every day of the year. But this week gives us a moment to shine a brighter light on the people who make education possible, the people who show up for students with patience, dedication, creativity, compassion, and heart.
Across North Kitsap, our schools are filled with extraordinary staff members who help create learning environments where students can grow, belong, and thrive. Teachers, paraeducators, office staff, custodians, bus drivers, food service teams, counselors, nurses, librarians, specialists, administrators, coaches, volunteers, and support staff all play an essential role in the daily life of our schools.
Some of that work is highly visible. We see lessons being taught, meals being served, buses arriving, phones being answered, activities being coached, and students being welcomed each morning.
But so much of the work happens quietly.
It happens when a staff member notices a student having a hard day and takes a few extra minutes to listen. It happens when someone stays late to prepare for tomorrow, helps a family navigate a challenge, fixes a problem before anyone else knows it exists, or offers encouragement at exactly the right moment. It happens in the small acts of care that may never make headlines, but can change the course of a student’s day—and sometimes much more than that.
Education is not just systems, schedules, classrooms, curriculum, and calendars. Education is people. It’s the…
A teacher who helps a student believe they are capable.
A paraeducator who provides steady support and confidence.
A bus driver who is the first smile of the morning.
An office professional who keeps a school moving with grace and calm.
A custodian who creates a safe, welcoming space for learning.
A food service worker who makes sure students are nourished and cared for.
A counselor, nurse, librarian, coach, specialist, administrator, and support staff member, each helping students feel seen, supported, and valued.
At the North Kitsap Schools Foundation, we believe strong schools are built by strong communities, and at the center of every strong school community are the people who serve students every day. District staff carry the mission of education forward through their actions, their relationships, and their commitment to helping every student discover what is possible.
This week, we celebrate them with deep gratitude. But more than that, we recommit ourselves to appreciating and supporting school staff all year long. Because their work matters in ways that extend far beyond a single lesson, a single school day, or a single week of recognition.
To every staff member serving North Kitsap students and families: thank you…
for your heart.
for your patience.
for your resilience.
for the extra steps, the quiet encouragement, the long days, the unseen work, and the care you bring to students every single day.
You are the heart of our schools. And the difference you make is felt in every classroom, every building, every family, and every student whose life is better because you chose this work.
