After Ten Years Of Service With The North Kitsap Schools Foundation, Dennis Peters Steps Away From The Board

With a son who teaches at Poulsbo Middle School and four grandchildren attending various North Kitsap schools, Dennis has been connected to and committed to supporting education in North Kitsap through a work ethic that is nothing short of a second career.
Shortly after joining the NKSF board, Dennis set to work on organizing the foundation’s finances and accounting, a duty he focused on almost exclusively for the duration of his tenure with the foundation. He updated the accounting system software to generate reports with greater accuracy, making it easier for board trustees to read and comprehend the foundation’s finances.
Dennis also worked tirelessly to keep the board on track, and often served as one of the most essential components of any system—the brake pedal. It can be easy for a group of people to go careening out of control due to excitement and passion for building strong schools, so Dennis stepped in often to keep things in check. With a nature that, at times, could have been misinterpreted as obstruction or dissent, Dennis taught us all a valuable sense of practicality and careful consideration before action. Yet beneath the surface, Dennis carries the same passion for the foundation’s mission as every other board member.
As quickly as Dennis would step up to help, it speaks volumes to that passion. He often took on additional tasks and responsibilities to ensure proper legal and procedural processes were followed. Dutifully tracking every regulatory reporting requirement and deadline to keep the foundation operating smoothly also added to the list of responsibilities he voluntarily accepted. It is this profound sense of responsibility that the NKSF board carries into the future. Dennis’s most significant contribution to the foundation, among the many tasks he undertook, was an acute attention to the responsibilities of the foundation—responsibilities not just to legal and ethical standards, but also to the community and to education.
For those of us who carry on the work of the North Kitsap Schools Foundation into the future, we are all the better for having had the opportunity to work with Dennis and learn by his example. That we are now able to see further is because he lifted us onto his shoulders to show us the way.
We wish Dennis the best in his long-overdue retirement and will carry with us the values he brought to the table to ensure we do our best by him and all those who have worked so hard to make NKSF what it is today.
