We enjoyed a simply magical evening at Vinland Elementary this last spring walking through the Many Hands, Many Lands diversity fair with members of Poulsbo Rotary’s Youth Services Committee. The second annual multicultural diversity fair at Vinland Elementary took place in May, bringing students and the community together around a wonderful educational opportunity and community support program. 

When first-grade teacher Heather Blue opened her classroom’s astronomy unit this year, she never imagined it would launch her students straight into the stars - literally. Thanks to a grant from the North Kitsap Schools Foundation, Blue brought the Bremerton Mobile Planetarium Outreach Program to Poulsbo Elementary. We’ve redesigned our special recognition window clings for local businesses so that when you’re out and about in the community you can see and share our appreciation for the extra support they provide our schools. To kick it off, our first sticky hugs go out to two amazing local restaurant supporters.

At the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, Rosanna Lampano, Kingston Middle School band teacher, inventoried over 100 music instruments in a state of disrepair, and unusable. NKSF stepped up with a grant award of $5,000 to begin the repair process. With the help of our local community partner foundations, the renewed instruments enhanced the band program experience all around.

Town & Country Markets and Walmart offer us the sustenance we need to feed our families bodies, and the support we need to feed our children’s minds. The lasting partnerships between NKSF and our neighborhood stores have provided countless opportunities for students to learn from the amazing and innovative programs NK educators implement every year. 

This spring, third-grade classrooms across North Kitsap transformed into real-life hatcheries. With the help of a grant from the North Kitsap Schools Foundation, students at David Wolfle, Poulsbo, Suquamish, and Vinland Elementary Schools participated in the Salmon Seekers program. This powerful, hands-on learning experience brought the salmon life cycle out of the textbook and into the classroom, making it a truly engaging experience.

As we work to build longevity into our Grants Program, the NKSF Board of Trustees will be making some changes to the grant application and award policies and procedures. At the beginning of the 2025-2026 NK school year, the following updates to our grants program will go into effect. 

We’re already looking forward to Dine Out next year, and since we love inclusivity and transparency at NKSF we’ve set up some brief, 5 minute, surveys that we’d love for you to stop by and fill out if you can to let us know about your experience during Dine Out.

We’re so grateful to everyone who was able to come out for the revival of Dine Out, and for our partnering restaurants for hosting the return. For those of you who didn’t get a chance to connect with us or our hosts this time around, don’t worry, we’re planning to keep strong, grow the event, and figure out ways to include more of the community.

During the week of April 27th, through May 3rd, 2025, we’re encouraging the community to come out to eat in solidarity with our local schools and restaurants. 

Because of the thoughtful and giving community around and among our schools, the awards granted during the 2023-2024 North Kitsap school year illuminates the possibilities of the future. This part of our work, seeing the grants in action and the impact on the classrooms that the teachers share, excites us as though they were streaks of light from meteors in the night sky.
